Most of what residents read on a council website was written by a content designer, not a developer. Until now, our working groups have mostly been about code: migrations, accessibility testing and shared components. That leaves out a lot of the people who make public sector Drupal sites useful.
So from this month there is a Content design working group. It meets online once a month and talks in its own group on the community platform between meetings.
What it will work on first
- Service page patterns. A shared set of page structures for the services every council runs, such as applying for a blue badge or reporting a missed collection, written so they drop into a LocalGov Drupal service page.
- A plain-English glossary. The words we keep getting wrong, the words residents actually search for, and what to use instead.
- Editor training notes. Short guides for new editors on using Drupal's admin screens well, from writing link text to choosing images.
Who it is for
Anyone who writes, edits or manages content on a public sector Drupal site. You do not need to be a member of a digital team, and you do not need to know any code. Developers are welcome too, especially if you build the editing experience.
The first meeting is on the community platform's events page. Join the group there and introduce yourself.
