Our Yorkshire meetup took over a room at Leeds Central Library on a warm Thursday evening. The format was simple: three short talks, food, and plenty of time to talk to people doing the same job in the next authority along.
The talks
Mapping without a mapping budget. A team showed how they replaced a paid mapping service with Leaflet, OpenStreetMap tiles and Drupal's Geofield. The result is a set of maps for libraries, recycling centres and polling stations that editors update from the admin screens.
The redirect file. A developer walked through the spreadsheet of old and new URLs from their Drupal 7 migration, and the 404 log habits that kept it accurate. There was a lot of nodding.
Content design in the open. A content designer talked about publishing their style guide on their own Drupal site, and how that made it easier for colleagues in other services to follow it.
What people asked for next
Two requests came up again and again over the food. People want a hands-on session for the upgrade to Drupal 11, and they want more meetups outside London. The upgrade sprint in Birmingham in November is the answer to the first. A North West meetup in Manchester is the answer to the second.
Thank you to everyone who came, and to the library staff for looking after us. Slides from all three talks are in the Meetups group on the community platform.
